The Verona Area Education Foundation, in partnership with the City of Verona and Verona Area School District, is excited to announce a new street banner program for 2017 that will highlight local student artistic talent. With the theme of ‘Hometown USA’, this inaugural project will feature more than 50 student works reproduced on street banners hung on east and west Verona Avenue in the spring of 2017.

Entries will be due no later than February 1st. Works in all artistic styles and mediums will be accepted, provided that they represent the theme and intent of the contest and can be photographed and enlarged for large format printing.

Students interested in submitting a piece of work should download these instructional and delivery guidelines:

Entries will be due no later than February 1st. Works in all artistic styles and mediums will be accepted, provided that they represent the theme and intent of the contest and can be photographed and enlarged for large format printing.  If there are any Spanish-speaking students that have a desire to take part in this banner competition, please contact a translator to communicate this and assist with the banner application process if needed.

In addition to being installed on street banners, a second banner featuring each winning entry will be available for auction at a public event this spring, with proceeds benefitting the VAEF classroom grant program. This program provides funding for district staff pursuing unique and innovative education opportunities for students in the district. Now in its 25th year, the VAEF has funded more than 275 individual projects, providing over $100,000 for projects at each of the area schools.

A walking tour will also be produced and published to highlight both the student artists and their works. This piece will be made available for visitors and residents alike, honoring student artists and sharing individual stories behind each work of art.
